Scottish Grand National - who will win?
After picking the 50/1 winner of the Aintree Grand National last week, it’s probably a little optimistic to think that I can do the double with the Scottish Grand National today, but I’ll give it my best shot.
The trends in this race aren’t quite as strong as the Grand National, but funnily enough it was relatively easy to cut the field down in size. The most notable trends are…
10/10 – Trained in the UK
10/10 - Aged 7 or older
7/10 – Running again within 41 days
7/10 – Finished in the first 3 last time out
And that, believe it or not, only leaves us with three runners…
High Cotton
This one is currently trading at 130.0 on Betfair and the reason for that is simply because it’s impossible to imagine him winning. He’s never won a race in 36 starts and is racing from 13lb out of the handicap, so he’s surely got it all to do in a hot race like this.
Character Building
Unlike High Cotton, Character Building has a very realistic chance of winning. He ran a blinder in a 4 mile 1 furlong race at Cheltenham last time and the winner, who only beat him by 3/4 lengths, has since gone on to win the Irish Grand National, so his chance is there for all to see.
Parsons Legacy
Parsons Legacy is another who looks to have an outstanding chance based on the form of his last run at Cheltenham. That was over 3 miles 1 furlong and he was staying on strongly at the end after being outpaced earlier in the race, so there’s every reason to think that today’s 4 mile trip will suit.
The way I’ll be staking these two is as follows:
1. Character Building - 2 points each-way at 7/1
2. Parsons Legacy - 2 points each-way at 8/1 (with Coral)
