Top 5 Gambling Books
I was surfing the internet and came upon the great Max Rubin’s website.A section of his site is dedicated to the best and worst casinos in the United States and lots of other stuff about blackjack. What caught my eye though is his Max Rubin’s choice for the best gambling books in existence. Since we know Max Rubin to be a one of the few Blackjack Hall of Famers then his literary choice in gambling is one we should pay attention to. So in case you are looking for a good gambling book to read I decided to post Rubin’s top 5 gambling books.
1. Comp City by Max Rubin - Well of course this would be his number one gambling book. He wrote it after all. But even if it wasn’t Max Rubin plugging his own book you can be sure that Comp City makes for a good read as well as a good source of tips on how to get more comps in casinos. A lot of his tips are also very easy to follow so that even someone who can’t really play well will still have a better chance of getting more comps after reading his book.
2. Gambling Wizards by Richard Munchkin - If you want to get into the psyche of the gambling greats this is the book for you. The book is full of interviews of some of the greatest gambling wizards. You can be sure to pick up a thing or two or three or four from this book.
3. Kill Phil by Blair Rodman and Lee Nelson - According to Max Rubin this is the best ever poker book he’s ever encountered. The book lives on the mantra “Move In” and offers a simple yet great strategy most apt for players that are of the beginner to intermediate level. Advanced poker players will still find the book interesting but would undoubtedly prefer another book if they want to learn more complex strategies.
4. Play to Win by Kenny Einiger - If Kill Phil is to poker then Play to Win is to Tournament Blackjack. Mind you Rubin knows tournament blackjack as he is the color commentator and gambling expert of the “Ultimate Blackjack Tour”. Even without Rubin’s endorsement though it is very easy to believe that Play to Win is the best tournament blackjack book at the moment since the author, Kenny Einiger, is the current World Champion of tournament blackjack.
5. Beyond Counting by James Grosjean - Definitely not for beginners this book is meant for advanced players who will understand his analysis of traditional games (with focus on blackjack of course) and the ways to beat them. This book is however no longer being published so that if you want to buy one you might have a hard time finding good copies. As of the moment though Amazon.com has 2 copies for sale (one used and one new). If someone beats you to it you’ll have to go on eBay or other auction sites to find one where the book goes for $500 - $2000 per copy.
