Case Study 1 - Conditional Betting Application
A Detailed Case Study of a Custom Software Project.

Professional betting exchange trader Scott W. from Edinburgh contacted us in June 2004 with an idea for a software application that would enable him to select the races he was interested in trading on that day, enter a set of pre-determined conditions and leave the software to run overnight matching back and lay bets whenever the market moved into the position he required.

As Scott told us at the time...

"My problem is that I have what I consider to be a very successful means of 'acquiring' free money on the betting exchanges, but as the core of this strategy involves trading on overnight markets the liquidity is low and and I need a high level of trades taking place in order to make any real money at it."

After 2-3 weeks consulting with Scott we came up with a formula for a software application that would monitor the world's leading betting exchange, Betfair.com, scan the markets for the same kind of situations Scott would look for himself and then place his bets for him automatically without any further human input.

The project itself took just under five weeks to complete, including an intensive two week testing period, after which time Scott wrote back to us with the following message...

"Thank you so much for your assistance in creating my bot application. Without your help in figuring out the 'how to' of the programming side and your knowledge of the exchange markets, I'd never have been able to get this off the ground. It's been a pleasure working with you. Now I can't wait to get started!"

Scott then 'vanished' for a month and we began to think he
may not be happy with the end result of the project, so at the beginning of September I took it upon myself to send him a quick courtesy email to ask how things had been going since he started using the software himself. How wrong could we be...

"Sorry, I did mean to write back sooner. I've got to say how impressed I am! The first month I used the software I played to small stakes, but the number of successful bets my bot is placing is simply incredible! By the end of the first month I'd made 53% profit on a very healthy turnover, so I'm now going to inject some of my profits into building a second one!"
