An Independent Review of Value Horse Finder.

As soon as I opened up Value Horse Finder I knew that I'd like it. The interface was immediately welcoming, not daunting or threatening as it can be with many new pieces of software.

Once loaded, the familiar face of the Oddschecker's home page opened up in front of me and just a click away are two tabs to display both the win and the place markets in my BetFair account.

Both win and place markets? Oh yes, both markets. This smart piece of kit searches out arbs in both the win and place markets by monitoring all the bookies' prices on Oddschecker.com, what their place odds are and the corresponding odds available on the win and place markets on BetFair. When it detects an arb it alerts you to it instantly.

Yes, this is another one of those bits of software that is turning a lot of gamblers into traders. Allowing you to set up bets, or rather trades, with zero risk. Where was it read recently that it is not the lack of winner finding that beats most punters. It is their inability to reduce the number of losers they back that wipes out the profit. Well this will stop the rot and also fill a hole in the market in one hit. I have seen plenty of Bots and other pieces of software that will help you run after the ever competitive trading market on BetFair, but never one that brings in the bookies too.

It is not a 'Bot' as such - this is a tool that will alert you to disparities in prices on offer from the bookies and BetFair. Once found, it is up to you to trade or not to trade - that is your decision. Not only that, but it also allows you to choose your favoured (or the most profitable!) method of exploiting this inbalance depending upon the horse on offer. All stakes are automatically calculated by VHF and displayed on the easy to read analysis tab. The difficult stuff is already done for you before you can reach for the calculator. Now that is what I call 'Neat'!

Whether or not you have a view on the race or are just watching it for the chance to make a 'no risk' arb, all you need do is wait for the little red line to show up and you know you are in business.

It doesn't matter whether you think the horse will win, place or lose, once the odds are out of balance, VHF will automatically calculate the stake you need to lay on both the BetFair win market and place market in order to make a profit. It really is as simple as that.

The options on offer are for you to make an equal profit no matter if the horse wins, places or loses - guaranteed! Provided you back the horse to the calculated stakes with the highlighted bookmaker and then lay the horse on both the win and place markets on BetFair, you are in a guaranteed win/win situation - with no downside.

And that is not all. There are other options too. If you believe the horse is going to 'win', VHF will arrange the stakes so your maximum profit is made if it does. Or, if you think it might win or almost certainly place, you can set VHF to take best advantage of that. And yet another option, if you think the horse is likely to be placed or may not make the frame at all, you can set VHF to arrange your stakes accordingly. The thing is just so versatile.

Then there is the option where you might want to go against it not making the frame at all. Finally, there is the lay option. The only one on the list that poses any sort of risk to you capital. All the rest are risk free.

And if that is not enough, once you get confident in using the software, you can start adjusting the specific amounts layed so as to fine tune your investment and so balance your stakes with your opinion. Did I just say 'versatile'? - I'll say!

VHF has one or two other features that I also found really attractive. This is mainly because I know just how quickly your brain can turn to mush in a stress filled 'trading' situation.

One of my favourites is the little red line I mentioned above. Once you have set up VHF and the race is being monitored, there is no need for you to squint at all the ever changing prices and percentages looking for the ideal arb. You just watch for the the little red line! As soon as a suitable arb is found, it is underlined in red. It really is that simple.

The red line shows the arb and then all you need to do is identify the bookmaker, place your bet, and then with the one-click submit buttons, send your lay bets to BetFair.

Another thing that is monitored and displayed are both the BetFair and the bookmaker's place odds and the number of places they pay out on in the race in question. A small thing maybe, but something easily over looked the heat of the moment that can bring a well laid arb crashing to the ground.

Having said that, they are not the only aspects of VHF to recommend it. The on-line help file is extensive and fully explains every part of VHF and how to use it. It also gives you a complete run down of all the strategies you can use to profit using the software. Not only that but it also warns of the downsides and how you can best avoid being caught out in the arb trap. Been there, done that and ouch! Why is it always the 'wrong' side of the bet that wins?

Other nice touches are the facility to input your personal BetFair commission charge so it can be included in the profit calculations and the variable refresh options for both BetFair and Oddschecker - both thoughtful additions to the interface.

All in all, to quote my reply to Nessie when he emailed to ask how I was getting on with Value Horse Finder - "Bloody good" was my reply. I haven't changed my mind yet and don't expect to!
