Case Study 4 - Value Horse
Finder
A Review of Value
Horse Finder by Harold Rollinson.
Well I opened the zip file and installed the VHF
software with no fuss at all. Never having tried to create no risk
arbitrage bets before I thought I'd better settle down for a long
haul, however to my delight Value
Horse Finder
is nowhere near the complicated process I was fearing.
I had also been warned about the speed I would need
to have to grab these arbitrage opportunities, and I am also pleased
to say that the software highlights totally unique arbitrage trades.
These trades are not the normal win/win arbitrage situations that
disappear in the blink of an eye for very little profit. The arbitrage
trades that VHF finds exploits a loophole in the bookmakers EW odds that he can't
change his prices quick enough to block.
The software has the familiar look of the two odds
comparison sites, those being Oddschecker.com and the Racing Post Betting
Shop, as well as the familiar Betfair screens for the win and place
markets. VHF
operates on the UK horse racing markets only, because of the nature of
bets it searches for. Yes that's right - win and place markets - but
more of that later.
So let's start by looking at how experienced you
need to be on a computer to use this software. Well the really
excellent thing is even a computer newbie can operate this software
successfully I am pleased to report. I found the instructions very
easy to follow and within a few minutes I had the day's cards being
scanned. I did decide to send an email to the developers and was
amazed with the speed of the response. I can't speak highly enough of
the backup service should it be needed.
The user only has to be able to literally point and
click a series of options to operate this software, it is that easy to
use. Oh and by the way did I mention once the bets are entered into
the scanner you can leave the markets scanning in the background and a
neat sound alert highlights a "no risk" arbitrage
opportunity arising, leaving you free to spend your time as you like
not tied to the computer screen.
So when you open VHF
you are greeted by the familiar odds comparison page and four tabs
across the top of the main screen. The Betfair win market, the Betfair
place market, our choice of odds comparison site and the analysis tab.
Above this are two white boxes and some user definable boxes to the
right, these are the bookies EW stake, the EW terms of the race, your
Betfair commission rate and the Return on Investment %.
All the user does is select the new
"scanner" option and a small window opens with three columns
displayed, you then select the Load Races option and the first two
columns fill with the days races from the odds comparison site of your
choice and the Betfair site. You simply point at the time of race from
the odds comparison column and click, then select the same race from
the Betfair win market and place market column and click to add to the
scan list. It's that simple.
The end column then displays the list of races to be
scanned . Should you make a mistake loading the scanner a small box
opens to alert you that the markets are not matching and would you
like to continue or not? Which is a very nice feature.
Once the day's races are loaded you simply check the
Return on Investment criteria and make sure the minimum level of
return is to your liking and the staking for the Bookmakers EW bet is
set to the amount you are prepared to place. You then simply click to
start scanning.
When the software screen comes to life the two white
boxes in the top area of the screen fills with data from the
bookmakers and Betfair odds and compares the data looking for a
discrepancy to exploit geared up around your Return on Investment
data. When VHF finds an opportunity it makes a sound and a red line appears to
highlight the opportunity, it really stands out well.
Then you simply click the analysis tab, click the
reset runners list and highlight the horse you are alerted to and all
kinds of neat stuff is displayed. The important part I find is the
probability figures it will show you the most likely outcome to expect
whether the horse can be expected to win, place or finish unplaced.
You simply click the bet variable that best matches
this probability. VHF calculates all the staking and odds required around the data you have
already input, you then simply submit the bet to the Bookmaker
securing this side of the arbitrage first to the amount you have
entered as your EW bookmaker stake. Once the bookmaker price is
secured you simply click the two Betfair submission buttons one to Lay
the win bet and the other to Lay the place bet and the neat thing here
is all the staking is automatically entered for you - just click the
button and the bets are fired directly into the Betfair markets.
If you miss a price slightly or a better position
arises and you want to change the odds and work around the new data
there is a really neat feature in the analysis screen that allows you
to enter your own odds criteria and the software recalculates your
position.
This software is great fun to use and more
importantly it's very profitable for no risk. The
backup service is excellent and the Help Guides
comprehensive and easy to follow.
All in all this software is a must for any arbitrage
player, so why not go and have a look at VHF
for yourself?
I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
